The steps in electing a President
Political parties hold national conventions to choose their candidates for President and Vice President
Political Parties choose their candidates in state caucuses or state elections
All candidates campaign until election day, the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November.
Electors cast their votes for President and Vice President. The candidates with the majority (>1/2) of the electoral votes win
If no candidate wins the majority of the electoral votes, the House of Representatives chooses the new President
The new President takes office during the inauguration on January 20 after the election
