Introduction
Buckingham Palace is the Queens official London residence and is used to receive and entertain guests on state, ceremonial and official occasions for the Royal Family.

Located in the Westminster district of London, United Kingdom, between The Green Park, Hyde Park and St. James`s Park, the palace is a setting for state occasions and royal hospitality.
History
Buckingham Palace was originally a grand house built by the Dukes of Buckingham for his wife in 1705.
George IV began transforming it into a palace in 1826.
Inside
The Palace has around 600 rooms, including
19 State rooms, 52 royal and guest bedrooms,
78 bathrooms, 92 offices, a cinema and a swimming pool.
It also has its own post office and police station.

About 400 people work at the Palace, including domestic servants, chefs, footmen, cleaners, plumbers, gardeners, chauffers, electricians, and two people who look after the 300 clocks.

The Victoria Memorial is the golden statue of Queen Victoria which sits in front of the Palace facing down The Mall
The Queen`s Gallery is a permanent space dedicated to exhibitions of items from the Royal Collection.
Only a small part of the collection is on display at any time so the objects on display are continuously rotated making it worthy of repeat visits.

The Royal Mews houses the State vehicles used by the Royal Family for coronations, State Visits and royal weddings.
The stables are also home to the horses that take part in The Queen`s official and ceremonial duties.
This requires a ticket for entry.

Five regiments of Foot Guards guard the Palace. They wear red jackets and tall, furry hats called bearskins.

Every year more than 50,000 invited guests are entertained at royal garden parties, receptions, audiences, and banquets.

The Forecourt of Buckingham Palace is used for Changing of the Guard, a major ceremony and tourist attraction.

The proper name of the ceremony is actually the Guard Mounting.
It takes place daily during the summer months; every other day during the winter
Tourism
Buckingham Palace`s state rooms, ballroom and gardens are open to visitors during August and September while the Queen makes her annual visit to Balmoral.
