PHRASAL VERBS - UNIT 13
I. Complete these sentences using the six verbs from the list below. Use each verb only once.
look up to - cheer up - put (sb.) off - look down on - look forward to - put up with
1. The bad newspaper reviews......me going to see the new film.

stopped working.

II. Complete these sentences using the `ing` form of the verb in brackets.
e.g.The noise put Ron off....... (read his book)
=> The noise put Ron off reading his book.
1. I`m looking forward to...... (meet him)
2. The bad weather put me off....... (go for a walk)
3. We are looking forward to...... (see him again)
III. Replace the words in italics by the words in brackets. Change the word order if necessary.
e.g. Tom cheered his sister up. (her)
=> Tom cheered her up.
1. My father is looking forward to his retirement. (it)
2. He put me off the idea. (it)
3. The invitation cheered him up. (Terry)
4. I don`t know how you put up with all your troubles. (them)
5. They look down on Peter. (him)
6. We look up to her. (Sally)
IV. Complete the passage using put (someone) off/look up to/look down on.

V. Complete the passage using cheer up/put up with/look forward to.

VI. Use the verbs in brackets to reply to the following.

Notes.
- look up to: kính phục (= admire and respect sb.)
- cheer up: làm cho ai vui lên (= make sb. feel happier)
- put (sb.) off: không gây hứng thú; làm mất hứng (= disencourage)
- look down on: khinh bỉ; coi thường (think that you are better than someone)
- look forward to: mong; ngóng (= feel pleased and excited about something that is going to happen)
- put up with: chịu đựng (= endure; accept an unpleasant situation or experience)
