1. Introduction
Northern Ireland:
+belongs to Britain
+is a polarized society(between the Catholic and the Protestant)
+has beautiful landscapes
+is still facing political troubles
2. Development:
2.1. Geography
Northern Ireland:
+has flat land(largely agricultural)
+has a lot of rivers, lakes and natural beauty
Lough Neagh and Giant’s Causeway
2.2. Flag and language:
+Main language: English
+An ancient language derived from Celtic: Irish Gaelic
2.3. Politics:
+Is dominated by the historic animosity between the two communities:
-the Catholic viewpoint is known as `nationalist’ or ’republican’
-the Protestant viewpoint is known as `unionist’ or ’loyalist’
+has strong conflict with the English
2.4. Economy:
+The Protestants had always had the economic power in the six counties
+There is an estimated loss of a similar sum in terms of potential business and tourism in the Province, let alone the potential to create an estimated 20,000 jobs
2.5. Education:
Education in Northern Ireland:
+has always been segregated(10% 0f children attend integrated schools)
+should be encouraged by government between integrated schooling and residential areas
2.6. Unemployment:
Northern Ireland:
+has the high level of unemployment, affecting the Catholic community most
+is the result of a political as well as an economic consequence
3. Conclusion
Political troubles prevented Northern Ireland from development. However, now there is a general disgust at the activities of extremists and a strong desire for peace. Nearly all terrorist activities have ceased.
