Read the text and do the tasks that follow.

a) Which of the following is the best title of the text?

b) Answer the following questions.
1. Because Mt. Everest – the highest place on earth – has a lot of garbage now.
2. They need oxygen bottles when they climb to the height of more than 7,800 meters, where there is not enough oxygen to breathe in.
3. They need fuel canisters, oxygen bottles, foods, and drinks.
4. Sherpas pick up garbage, put it in their backpacks, and carry it to the foot of the mountain.
5. They collected more garbage in 1980 than they had done in 1995.
6. This is a measure to force tourists not to leave their equipment on the mountains. If they do so, they can not get back their deposit.

FOREST FIRE

Solutions:
Forbid smoking in the forest area.
Supervise around the forest area.
Fireman should be trained carefully for sudden forest fire.
Do not allow tourists to make a campfire.



AIR POLLUTION

Solutions:
Industrial factories should be moved to remote area.
Use clean energy (water, wind, sun,…).
Develop the technology to produce less toxic.
Use special equipments to filter the atmosphere.
Plant trees.


WATER POLLUTION

Solutions:
Filter sewage from factories before pouring into rivers.
Do not litter garbage into the water or on the river bank.
Daily sewage should be purified scientifically.
Launch a campaign to increase the residents’ awareness of protecting water source.





DEFORESTATION

Solutions:
Carry out the law of protecting the forest.
Have stricter punishment on anyone who destroys the forest.
Limit population increase.
Replant trees in the forest.


ILLEGAL HUNTING, ANIMAL EXTINCTION

Solutions:
Ban exchanging, purchasing, trading the products made from extinctive animal.
Gamekeepers should supervise national parks carefully.
Build animal reserves.
Laws have been introduced to prohibit killing endangered animals.
OIL SPILL

Solutions:
Skim the oil on the water surface.
Use chemical method to filter the water.
Punish people or firms who have caused this problem.
Renourish creatures which have been terribly affected.
