1. Why to teach pronunciation?
to improve intelligibility
to create the best impression in particular situations
because of the inconsistent relationship between pronunciation and writing (different spelling but same pronunciation) confusion
Pronunciation’s problems
(1) using the wrong sound
(2) leaving sounds out
(3) adding sounds
(4) putting stress on the wrong syllable
in a word
(5) putting stress on the wrong syllable
in a sentence
(6) using the wrong intonation pattern
(7) combinations of these problems

-> Not more than 5 or 10 minutes at the most.

-> It depends on whether the focus on pronunciation is incidental.
