The City of Melbourne has high standards for the cleaning of streets, laneways, footpaths and drains. Residential streets are cleaned weekly, and CBD streets and laneways are cleaned at least daily.
More than 300 animal species from Australia and around the world are on view just 4km from the city centre at award-winning Melbourne Zoo. Visitors have the pleasure of viewing wildlife in naturalistic habitats in the Zoo`s brilliant 22 hectare botanic setting (55 acres).

Melbourne has an integrated public transport system based around extensive train, tram and bus networks. Its tram network is the largest in the world, while the rail network is one of the largest in the world, hosting 15 lines, the Paris Metro is a third smaller, while San Francisco`s BART system is less than half the size. It is also served by an extensive network of freeways and arterial roadways.
The Melbourne rail network consists of 16 suburban lines which radiate from the City Loop, a partially underground metro section of the network beneath the Central Business District (Hoddle Grid).

The Port of Melbourne is Australia`s largest container and general cargo port and also its busiest. Melbourne has four airports, Avalon Airport, located between Melbourne and Geelong, is a secondary hub of Jetstar. It is also used as a freight and maintenance facility. This makes Melbourne the only city in Australia to have a second commercial airport.
