In Britain, natural gas in the most popular fuel of heating homes, and for cooking. It is pipel all over the country from the gas fields below the North Sea. Natural gas in used chiefly as direct source of energy, although it is also used in chemical industry. At the moment the supply is plentiful, but it will be running short by the end of the century, and will run out, during the 21st century unless are found. We could do without natural gas, as coal gas can be used as a substitute, and there should be enough coal to last for several centuries. However, it is a from of energy which is not only cheap, but also highly efficient.
What is natural gas used for?
Where does it come from?
What is gas used chiefly?
When will it run out?
What can be used as a substitute for natural gas?
Is natural gas expensive?
B. Read the passage carefully, then decide whether the following statements are true (T), or false (F).(1,5 points).
Many people still believe that natural resources will never be used up. Actually, the Word’s energy resources are limited. Nobody knows exactly how much fuel is left. However, we also should use them economically and try to find out alternative sources of power. According to Professor Marvin Burnham of the New England Institute of Technology, we have to start conserving coal, oil and gas before it is too late; and nuclear power it the only alternative.
However, many people do not approve of using nuclear power because it’s very dangerous. What would happen if there was a serious nuclear accident? Radioactivity causes cancer and may badly affect the future generations.
The most affective thing is that we should use natural resources as economical as possible.
