Read the following passage and answer the following questions.
Alexander Graham Bell was most famous for his invention of the telephone. He was born on March 3, 1847 in Edinburg, Scotland.In 1870 he emigrated to Canada and a year later to the United States. In the United States he began teaching deaf - mutes.
Since the age of 18 , Bell had been working on the idea of transmitting speech. One day in 1875 while running a test to create a machine that could carry voices, he accidentally spilled acid on his coat. Naturally, he called his assistant, Thomas A. Watson, who was in another room. Bell said:" Mr. Watson, come here. I want you.". Hearing these words coming from the machine, Watson immediately realized that their experiments were successful. He rushed excitedly into another room to tell Bell that he had heard his words over the machine. They first introduced this machine in 1876.Traveling all over America, Bell demonstrated his invention to the public at countless exhibitions , and by 1877 the first telephone was in commercial use .
