CAPITAL PUNISMENT IS THE ONLY WAY TO DETER CRIMMINALS. DISCUSS
Every citizen in society has freedom to act in terms of his will. Yet, he can live and work on the freedom he has, but just to a determined extent. There’s a tendency in man to deviate from right path to act in such a way that it invades other’s benefits. In order to maintain, to ensure the security and the interests of all, society binds its members to the certain line of conduct. It’s this function of ensuring the safety though right behavior that originated the idea of punishment. Thus, punishment is intended to prevent, deter and reform.
When sent to prison for life or hanged, he will never have chance, time to repeat his offence and if he is sent for a period of time, he may be deterred from committing further crime. Punishment can also have deterrent effect on would-be criminals.
Additionally, under the viewpoint that the criminal should get the test of violence, humanless offence which he has inflicted on his victims “he reaps what he sows”, the penalty that society gives is to be equaled with the severity of the crime. Capital punishment, as a result, is regarded to be suitable for criminals.
But, is capital punishment the only way to deter criminals?
Obviously, guilty man must be punished, it’s undeniable. Punishment of criminals today, however, is not the same as it was in the past, it’s more humane. Realizing its responsibility towards evildoers who are devoid of conscience living on inflicting pain on others and believing that they could be reformed, society, along with psychologists and others is doing its utmost to drive criminals back to normal life.
In fact, punishing a criminal is like treating the systems of a disease, Instead of disowning him, psychologists and social workers should pull their all weight to detect the motivation that incited him to commit crime. The aim is to remove that factors that make a man deviate from the right path to help him to fit himself into society. In this care, capital punishment is not serviceable, it destroys criminals, not deters them. Instead, imprison punishment is the humane and effective way to server people’s purpose. In prison, the emphasis is on reform. He is taught some skills, sense of integrity, responsibility for his fellow men so that his prison term could be profitably spent and it with be easier for him to be a normal to be on release. After all, “what done cannot be undone” killing the offender neither revives the life of the victims nor regains what he has lost.
However, life is an in ceasing transformation, nothing therefore is absolute. There’s always an exception. That’s the case of denatured criminal; they’re no longer human beings and no less than barbaric wild beasts. The misfortunes they made for their victims, the offence they did for community were excessive that no punishment is equal with their crimes. This is the very case that capital punishment is used. And I think maybe that’s the reason for the remaining of capital punishment in our society nowadays.(511 words)
