Verb Tense
Verb Tense
There are 7 different types of verb tenses
These include: simple present, simple past, present progressive, past progressive, present perfect, past perfect, and future time.
Verb Tense Cont.
Simple Present: used for an action that occurs regularly or for actions or conditions that are always true
Simple Past: names an action that already happened
Present Progressive: names an action that is continuing in the present
Past Progressive: names an action that continued from the past
Present Perfect: happened at indefinite time or an action that happened and is still happening
Past Perfect: names an action that took place before another action in the past
Future Time: names an action that will be completed before another future event begins
Verb Tense Examples
Simple Present: School happens every weekday.
Simple Past: I walked to school.
Present Progressive: She is crying.
Past Progressive: We were jumping.
Present Perfect: She has practiced.
Past Perfect: We had walked.
Future Time: We shall walk together.

Complex Sentence and the Dependent Clause
The Complex Sentence
A complex sentence is made up of:
Capital letter + dependent clause + comma + independent clause + a period
The Dependant Clause
A dependent clause has a subject and a verb but is lacking a complete thought
A dependent clause cannot stand by itself as a sentence
Complex Sentence and Dependent Clause Examples
Complex sentence: We had to leave the party, because the room was too crowded.
Dependent clause: because the room was too crowded.
