Period 1: The simple past and the present perfect tense

A. Aims:
Provide some exercises about the simple past and the present perfect tense in order that Ss will master the using of these tenses.

B. Content:
Exercise: Put the verbs in the brackets into the present perfect or the simple past tense.
1. A: This is my house.
B: How long you (live) here?
A: I (live) here since 1970.
2. He (live) in London for two years an then (go) to Edin burgh.
3. - You (wear) your hair long when you were at school?
- Yes, my mother (insist) on it. But when I (leave) school I (cut) my hair and (wear) it shorter ever since.
4. Shakespeare (write) a lot of play.
5. My brother (write) several plays. He just (finish) his second tragedy.
6. I (not see) him for three years. I wonder where he is.
7. He (not smoke) for two weeks. He is trying to give it up.

Period 2: Passive Voice

A. Aims:
Help students to review the passive voice by doing some exercises.

B. Content:
Exercise 1: Change these sentences into passive voice:
1. They can`t make tea with cold water.
2. Somebody has taken some of my books away.
3. They will hold the meeting before May Day
4. They have to repair the ingine of the car.
5. The boys broke the window and took away some pictures.
6. People spend a lot of moneyon advertising everyday.
7. They may use this room for the classroom.
8. The teacher is going to tell a story.
9. You musn`t use this machine after 5.30 p.m
10. No one believes his story.
Exercise 2: Change these sentences into active voice:
1. These exercises well done well.
2. This dress must be washed in cold water.
3. No mistaker have been made in his composition.
4. This house was built 100 years ago.
5. The lessons are being written by the students now.
