I. Aims
- By the end of the lesson, students will be able to ask for and give directions.
II. Language contents
- Grammar: Could you tell me the way to the surpermarket, please?
Could you tell/ show me how to get there/ to the post office, please?
Go straight ahead. Take the second street on the left. The supermarket in in front of you.
- Vocabulary: souvenir shop, how to get there, go straight ahead, take the first/ second street, on the left/ right, you’re welcome.
III. Techniques
- Jumbled words, What and where, word cue drill.

- Stereo, the street map.

- Call on two Ss to go to the board.
- Ss do exercise.
- T remarks and gives the marks.






- Write the topic on the board “Name the place”
- Put the chart with jumbled words on the board.
- Ask each team to connect the words to make the right phrases for places and write them on the board as fast as possible.
- Ask Ss to open their books and match the names with the pictures.
- Call on some Ss to give their answers.
- T gives the right answers.
- Have Ss copy.




- Elicit words form students.
- Have students copy.










- Rub out the new words one at a time.
- Each time you rub out an English word, point to the Vietnamese translation and ask “What’s this in English?”
- When all the English words are rubbed out, go through the Vietnamese list and get students to call the English words.
- If there’s time, get Ss to come to the board and write the English words again.

- Ask Ss to look at the picture on page 80.
- Ask Ss some questions and Ss answer.


- T introduces, “You will hear a conversation between a foreigner and Nga. You listen and answer the question “Where does the foreigner want to go?” – souvenir shop”
- T opens the tape twice.
- Ss listen.
- T introduces the models to ask for and give directions.
- Get students to copy.
- Ask Ss to practice the dialogue in pairs.
- Monitor and help Ss.
- Call on some pairs to practice in front of the class.
- T corrects their pronunciation.

- T sticks the street map on the board and explains the request of the exercise.
- Ss look at.
- T reads and gives the meaning of the places in the map.
- Ss listen and repeat.
- Ask Ss to ask for and give directions to these places in pairs.
- Monitor and help students with their work.
- Give feedback and correct.
