LESSON 1: READING
I. OBJECTIVES:
Students will get some knowledge of deserts.
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
understand the passage
scan read for specific information
guess meaning in context
understanding the humor of a funny story
II. PREPARATION: pictures, the world map.
III. PROCEDURE:

1. Warm- up: (Network ) (10’)
- Divide a class into 6 groups
- Write the key word on the board and ask Ss to work in groups to find out other words related to the topic Deserts.
- Check their answers and declare the winner who finds the most words.
- Divide a class into 6 groups.
- In groups, look at the key word and find out other words related to the topic Deserts.
- Check the answers with the teacher.
2. Pre-reading: (14’)
- Show the pictures and ask Ss to answers the questions (p. 91)
- Hang the map and ask Ss to show the deserts.
- Provide some information about a desert by summarizing Ss’ opinions.

- Introduce the new lesson: Today, we are going to read a passage about the deserts in Australia.
* Pre-teaching vocabulary:
+ comprise (v)
+ expedition (n): cuộc thám hiểm

- Look at the pictures and answer the questions.
- Look at the map and show the deserts.
- Give opinions about a desert.
- Listen to the teacher.
3. While -reading:
* Task 1: (16’)
- Have Ss read the request of task.
- Guide Ss to do the task.
- Have Ss read the text again and stop at the lines that contain the words to guess their meanings.
- Ask Ss to do the task individually. Go round to help them if necessary.
- Ask Ss to compare their answers with their partners.
- Have some Ss for their answers.
- Check the answers with the whole class.
- Read the new words
* Task 2 (16’)
- Introduce the task and show Ss how to do this task.
- Ask Ss to read the statements to understand them and go back to the passage to find the answers.
- Ask Ss to work in pairs, discussing their answers
- Call on some Ss to give their answers and give the reasons for their choice.
- Give feedback and the correct answers.
* Task 3: (20’)
- Introduce the task and show Ss how to do this task
- Ask Ss to skim the 7 comprehension questions in Task 3 to understand them.
- Have them go back to the text again and answer the questions individually.
- Have Ss work in pairs, discussing their answers.
- Call on some pairs to read the questions and the answers in front of class.
- Give the corrections and explanation.
- Read the request of the task.
- Listen to the teacher.
- Read the text again and stop at the lines that contain the words to guess their meanings.
- Do the task individually.
- In pairs, compare their answers.
- Listen to the answers and give remark.
- Check the answers with the teacher.
- Listen and repeat
