UNIT 6: GENDER EQUALITY
LESSON 5: LISTENING
I. Objectives:
1. General knowledge:
- Students know about wage discrimination against women
2. Skills: Students develop the following skills:
- Listening: marking True/False statements, filling in the gaps
- Speaking about gender equality/ inequality in wages and employment
II. Teaching aids: textbook, chalk, board, picture, computer, loudspeaker
III. Procedures:

I/ Greeting (1 min)
II/ Pre-listening (12mins)
1.Warm-up (10mins)
2.Lead-in (2mins)
III/ While listening:( 22mins)
IV. Post- listening:(10mins)
-Greet the students.
“Good morning, everyone.
How are you today?”
-Ask students to join game.
“Do you want to play a game or begin our lesson right now?
-Of course. The game is called: WHISPER”
-Give the rules:
+ “I’ll divide our class into two groups. Group A and group B. Each group has 5 members and stand in a line. The first person will see a sentence and whisper to the second, one by one until the last one. The last member will run as fast as possible to the board and write down the sentence.”
+ “The winner is the faster and has the right answers.”
+ “Do you understand?”
+ “Are you ready? Let’s start!”
-Control the game.
-Go to the board and check the answers.
+ “Let’s check the answers.”
+ “The first sentence, right or wrong?”
+ “The next one?”
+ “And the last one”
+ “Group A gets? marks. Group B gets? marks. So, who is the winner?”
-Congratulate the winner.
+ “Congratulation group?. Clap for the winner.”
-Lead in to revise last lesson
+ “As you can see, these sentences belong to last lesson.
-Ask the answer and call a student to answer.
“Do you remember the topic?”
+ “Now, we will go on our lesson, Listening part.”
-Ask students to open the book
+ “Open your book, page 11.”
-Task 1
-Ask students to look at the book and answer the questions.
+ “Look at the picture. Do they work the same job?”
-Call a student to answer.
+ “How do you know?”
-Give feedback.
+ “Right, it means that they do the same work.”
+ “Look at their face. How about the man? And the woman.
+ “Do you find anything different? Who get more money?”
+ “They do the same job. Why the manget more money than the woman?”
-Lead into Listening part.
+ “To answer this question, we will continue our lesson today.”
-Present new words to students and ask students to work in pairs.
+ “Before you listen, I’ll provide some new words for you. Discuss with your partner the meaning of these words?”
- Introduce the new words that will appear in the listening tape in the lesson.
Wage /weɪdʒ/ (n): an amount of money that you earn from work, usually every week, Qualified /ˈkwɒlɪfaɪd/(adj) having the experience to do a particular job.
Affect /əˈfekt/ (v) sb/sth to make a change in sb/sth.
Property /ˈprɒpəti/(n) :a thing or things that are owned by somebody.
Address /əˈdres/ (v):to think about a problem and solve it.
Discrimination /dɪˌskrɪmɪˈneɪʃn/(n) treating with somebody or a particular group in society less equally than others.
