Unit 1: a visit from a pen pal
Period 1: Lesson 1: getting stared & listen and read
A. preparation:
I. The aims of the lesson:
1. Knowledge:
At the end of the lesson, Ss can introduce some famous places in HN to a foreign pen pal.
Ss can talk about activities which are often done during the visit.
Vocabulary: Correspond, mosque, pray…
Structure: Review usage of “used to”
2. Skills: Pay attention to listening and reading skills.
3. Education: Ss can know about some famous places.
II. preparation:
1. Teacher: Lesson plan, visual aids
Students: Look up new words, textbook, ready for lesson.
B. the stages of the lesson:
7’ I. Warm up
Let’s play the game “Net words”
Team 1 Team 2
Guide Ss to play game.
Encourage Ps write as many word as possible.
Possible answer: One Pillar Pagoda, Temple of Literature, museum, Opera House, HCM’ mausoleum…
Give out a question and lets Ss to answer.
? If there is a foreign pen pal who is coming to visit you for the
first time. Where will you take her to?
Guides Ss to answer, using the pictures in part getting started.
S1: I’ll take her to a Viet Namese restaurant in town I want to introduce her our famous Nem.
S2: I’ll take her to Dong Xuan market to do some shopping.
S3: I’ll take her to temple of literature.
S4: I’ll take to museum.
II. NEW LESSON.
? Do you have pen pals?
? Have you met him/ her?
? Where does he / she come from?
What a bout Lan? What’s the name of Lan’s penpal? and where is she from ? Now we’ll study each other.

+ Present new words by some methods
and lets Ss to guess the meaning of them .

- Be impressed by < situation>
- Correspond
- Reads the new words and lets them to read in chorus (twice)
- Lets one to read a gain
- Gives out some questions
What is the name of Lan’s pen pal?
Where is she from?
What did Lan use to do when she was a primary school girl?
What places did Lan take her to?
- Plays the tape or reads the text the first time, ask Ss to close their books to listen to the text and answer the questions.
- Lets Ss discuss and compare their answers.
- Calls on some Ss to give their answers
- Gets Ss to open their books and listen to the teacher reads the text the second time
- Has Ss to check and correct their answers from 1 to 4 base on the content of the text.
- Gives an example with “ used to”
Does she often walk past the mosque now?
Who can give out form and how to use of “ used to”
- Asks a student to make examples with the form.
+ Controlled practice:
- Calls on some Ss to read the text aloud ( each student reads one passage )
- Corrects their wrong pronunciation
- Gets Ss to read the text in silent to do part “choose the correct option to complete the sentences”.
- Lets them to work in groups.
- Calls on 2 groups to give their results.
- Lets other groups to check and correct if there are mistakes.

- Gives out some questions to check their knowledge.
