Lesson 1 : READING
Time : 45 minutes
OBJECTIVES
1. Educational aim : At the end of the lesson, students will be able to know a day of work in the life of a peasant.
2. Knowledge
Grammar : The Present simple and Adverbs of frequency
Vocabulary : Some words about farming.
3. Skills : Reading for gist and for specific information.
* METHOD : Integrated, mainly communicative. * TEACHING AIDS : Textbook, pictures, poster … * PROCEDURE

Warm-up (4 min)
Matching
Match the work with the related place :
1. teacher a. market
2. doctor b. school
3. worker c. hospital
4. seller d. field
5. farmer e. factory
- T asks : Where does a teacher work ?
T asks some other similar questions.
-Now to understand more about the life of a farmer, today we learn Unit 1.
Pre-reading (7 min)
* Pre-teach Vocab : go off (v) – lead the buffalo to the field
get ready = prepare – plough (v) – harrow (v) – plot of land – peasant = farmer – take a short rest – repair the banks – pump water – do the transplanting – contented with = satisfied with * Checking : Rub out and remember
Set the scene: “You are going to read the two passages about a day in the life of two farmers, underline the words or phrases just studied”
While-reading (20 min)
-Lets sts read individually for 3 min.
( Task 1.
-Asking Ss to choose the option A, B or C that best suits the meaning of the italicised word(s) in Task 1.
( Task 2.
Answer the following questions :
1. What is Mr. Vy’s occupation ? 2. What time does he get up and what does he do after that ? 3. What does he do in the morning ? 4. What do Mr. Vy and his wife do in the afternoon ? 5. Are they happy with their lives or not ? Why ?
Post-reading (12 min)
( Task 3.
- Scan the passage and make a brief note about Mr. Vy and Mrs. Tuyet’s daily routines. Then compare your note with a partner.
In the morning
- 4:30 : alarm goes of, Mr. Vy gets up, gos down the kitchen, boils water for tea, drink tea, has quick breakfast, leads the buffalo to the field. - 5:15 : arrives in the field, ploughs and harrows. - 7:45 : takes a break - 10:30 goes home. - 11:30 has lunch with family Homework
