A visit from a pen pal
PERIOD 3 LESSON THREE
LISTEN
I.Objectives
1.Educational aims
* Should have the sense of responsibility.
2.Teaching aims
* To develop listening skill
* Listening for keywords by checking pictures
II.Language contents
1.Grammar : The near future , the simple present tense .
It’s time we caught the bus
I’d rather eat hamburgers . ( ’d rather = would rather )
2.Vocabulary : downtown , park keeper , grass , hamburger
III.Techniques : matching , describing the pictures .
IV.Teaching aids : pictures , tape , flashcards .

-Using the picture a1 and the picture a2 , have students guess the meanings .
( If students cannot present in English , the teacher gives two flashcards and ask students to match .)
+ Flashcard 1 :
Don’t step on the grass
+ Flashcard 2 :
Don’t pick flowers
-Introduce the lesson : Carlo is Tim John’s Maxican pen-pal . She is visiting the USA. Tim and Carlo are talking to one another.
-Stick the six pictures ( the same in the text book ) on the board , ask students to describe them .
-Guided questions :
Picture a1 : Whose foot is it ? ( Carlo’s )
What is she doing ? ( She is walking on the grass )
Picture a2 : What is she doing ? ( She is picking the flowers )
Picture b : Which bus are they going to catch ?
Picture c : Where are they going to eat ?
-After students finish describing the pictures , the teacher provides them some new words and structures.
* Structures : + It’s time we caught the bus
+ I’d rather eat hamburgers . ( ’d rather = would rather )
* New words : downtown , park keeper , grass , hamburger .
-Play the tape for students .
+ Listen to get information.
+ Listen and check (ð) the numbers of the correct pictures .
-Have students exchange the answers to check together.
-Have students listen the last time to check again.
-Call some students to read the answers before the class .
-Comment and give the answer key.
-Have students look at the pictures to describe the situations.(summarize)
-Learn the new words and the structures by heart.
-Write the summary of the lesson in your exercise book.
