Reported speech with Gerund
We use reported speech with Gerund in order to report feelings or suggestions.
suggest , admit , deny, insist on , think of, dream of, , apologize (sb) for…
accuse sb of , thank sb for , congratulate sb on ,prevent sb from, warn sb against…
Ex:
- “It was nice of you to help me. Thank you very much,” Tom said to you.
=> Tom thanked me for helping him.
- “I’m sorry I didn’t phone you earlier,” Mary said.
=> Mary apologized for not phoning me earlier.
- “Stay here! I can’t let you go out tonight” her mother said to Jane
=> Her mother prevented Jane from going out that night.
“It was you that told the secret.”
( She blamed me for telling the secret.
With some verbs, we have to use appropriate prepositions that are followed by gerunds. Some verbs go with gerunds to make reported speech.
