Develop reading skills: skimming and scanning
Know some informations about danger of the nature and use them to discuss environmental destruction and conservation.
Teaching aids: - Textbooks, handouts, pictures, and posters

- Give topic: current situation of nature today.
- Elicit the answer from Ss.
- Add some more problems if necessary
- Ask Ss to give some reasons for those problems and add some.
Suggested answers
- Reasons:
- cutting down the trees.
- produce harmful gases.
- killing animals
- use water for industry and agriculture.
Before you read
- Get Ss to look at the pictures in the textbook.
- Have them name some animals.
- Elicit what they know about these animals.
- Get Ss to read the facts about them.
- Ask them to look at 2 questions below and find the answers.
- Explain new words:
- remain [ri`mein]:
- endanger [in`deindʒə(r)]
- species [`spi:∫i:z]
- scatter [`skætə]
- Elicit the answers from Ss by asking 2 Ss to read their answers
- Help them correct the answers.
- Look at 3 pictures and give the names of these animals
- Give some informations of these animals from their knowledge.
- If not read the facts in textbook.
- Work with partners to discuss and give the answers.
- Correct mistakes according to teacher.

1. The number of these animals is decreasing. They may disappear from the earth if we do not take action to protect them. 2.People kill rare animals for food and fur. People destroy forests and pollute the air, soil and water, so animals` lives have been badly affected.
While you read

- Ask Ss to pay attention
- Get Ss read the passage silently.
- Remind them to find out new words.
- Give Ss some new words:
- respect /n/[ri`spekt]
- result in /v/[ri`zʌlt]
- prohibit /v/[prə`hibit]

- Teach new words to Ss pronounce those words correctly and let Ss read after 2 or 3 times.
- Ask some to read loudly.
- Correct their mistakes.
- Ask Ss to read the passage again then do task 1.

- Read the passage silently and find out new words.
- Practise pronouncing new words with partners.
- Try to practise as much as possible.

- Have them read and understand the requirement of the task.
- Explain if they find any new words.
- Ask Ss to work in pairs doing the exercise, trying to guess the meaning.

- The rest of class read the answer loudly.

- Do task 1 with partner after understanding clearly about the requirement.
- Try to do as well as possible.

- Divide class into 4 groups.
- Let them work in groups and discuss about 4 the main ideas of 4 paragraphs
- Before that, let them read through.
- Ask each groups to give the anwers.
- The other groups give comments.
- Give correct answers.
- Read the questions carefully.
- Work in groups, discuss and find out the main idea of each paragraph.
- Read the passage again if necessary.
- Give the best choice of their groups.
- Listen to comments and checking.
