People celebrate the harvest
Family members get together. They prepare a large meal with roast turkey
Valentine`s Day
People express their love to each other.
They give chocolates, flowers or gift to the people they love.
People celebrate the largest
full moon in the year.
Children wear masks, parade in the street,
have parties with special cakes and lots of fruits, etc.
Mid-Autumn Festival. (15th day of the 8th lunar month)
Mai: Do you know that Tet holiday is next month?
Anna: What is Tet?
Mai: It’s the time when Vietnamese people celebrate the beginning of spring. It’s also the start of the lunar new year.
Anna: When is it exactly?
Mai: Well, this year it’s on the 9th February.
Anna: What do you usually do at Tet?
Mai: Well, we eat a lot of special foods, we dress up and visit friends and relatives, and we also play some traditional games.
Anna: Oh, that sounds really interesting.
Task 1: You are going to read a conversation between Mai and Anna who are talking about Tet Holiday in Vietnam.
Task 3: Ask and answer about the holidays above, using the dialogue in Task 2 as the model.
Thanksgiving: is one day holiday to give thanks for the things one has at the end of the harvest season.
=> Our modern Thanksgiving meals are roast turkey, vegetable dishes, corn, pumpkin pie.
Valentine`s Day:
It originated from St. Valentine a Roman. It`s the traditional day on which lovers express their love for each other, sending Valentine`s card or candy. It’s very common to present flowers and chocolates on Valentine’s Day.
Mid-Autumn Festival. (15th day of the 8th lunar month)
It’s one of the most popular family holidays-also called the Children’s festival, held on 15th day of the 8th lunar month
At this time, the moon is at its fullest and brightest making an ideal time to celebrate the abundance of summer’s harvest
POST-SPEAKING:
Close the book and choose one of three festivals in Task 1 to retell in front of the class
HOMEWORK:
Write a paragraph about the festival which you know
