As we enter the 21st century, one third of the people on the planet use electricity for basic needs such as lighting or cooking. One of the most serious problems today is to get people clean and reliable sources of energy so that they can have clean water, healthcare facilities, heating and lighting. Global warming , which is caused by burning fossil fuels threatens people`s lives around the world. The world`s poorest people use very little of the world`s oil , coal, and gas but they will suffer most from floods and storms if no action is taken. Whole countries near the Indian and Pacific Oceans are threatened by flooding as the sea level rises. If we are going to stop the earth`s climate getting out of control , we should stop using most of world`s fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and gas to produce energy. It`s time to change to alternative sources of energy , like using the energy of wind, and the sun , both at home and all around the world. We mustn`t forget that poorer countries, where 80% of the world`s people live, cannot afford oil, coal, and gas.
