Comparison and contrast essay :
A Comparison or Contrast essay is an essay in which you either compare something or contrast something.
A comparison essay is an essay in which you emphasize the similarities.
A contrast essay is an essay in which you emphasize the differences.
The similarities (compare) between two things in order to make a point about them.
The differences (contrast) between two things in order to make a point about them.
The similarities (compare) and/or differences (contrast) between two things in order to make a point.
The similarities (contrast) and/or differnces (compare) between two things in order to make a point.
Purposes of this essay
to examine:
ORGANIZATIONS
Block organization.
Point-by-point.
1 Introduction
+ Begin with a sentence that will catch the reader`s interest.
+ Name the two subjects and say they are very similar, very different or have many important similarities and differences.
2 Body
- Describe featues of the first subject.
- Include examples proving the similarities and/or differences exist .
- Do not mention the second subject.
-The next paragraphs must begin with a transition showing you are comparing the second subject to the first.
3 Conclusion
+ Give a brief, general summary of the most important similarities and differences.
+ End with a personal statement, a prediction, or another snappy clincher.
