BT CONDITIONAL SENTENCE

THE CONDITIONAL SENTENCE
( Câu điều kiện )

Một câu điều kiện thường có hai mệnh đề: mệnh đề chính ( main clause) và mệnh đề phụ hay còn gọi là mệnh đề If ( If clause ).
Có 3 loại câu điều kiện căn bản:
Điều kiện có thật.
Điều kiện không thật ở hiện tại.
Điều kiện không thật ở quá khứ.

I.
Câu Điều Kiện Có Thật: chỉ một sự việc có thể xãy ra.
1.If I have time, I will visit you

If Clause Main Clause

2.John usually walks to school if he has enough time.
= If John has enough time, he usually walks to school.

3.If you hear from Jane, Please call me

Ta cần chú ý đến hình thức động từ của các câu trên.

- Mệnh đề if:
+ Simple Present

- Mệnh đề chính:
+ Simple Future
+ Simple Present
+ Bare Infinitive ( V nguyên mẫu không TO )

II.
Câu Điều Kiện Không Thật Ở Hiện Tại:
Dùng để chỉ một sự việc không thể xãy ra ở hiện tại
Ex:
1.If I had much money, I would buy a new bicycle. ( but I don`t have money).

2.If you practised English everyday, You could speak it fluently.

3.If I were you, I would not tell him about that.

4. If he were handsome, he would love her.

Ta cần chú ý đến hình thức động từ của các câu trên.

- Mệnh đề if: - Past Subjunctive

* Past Subjunctive: tức là dùng hình thức quá khứ của động từ. Đối với động từ " To Be" thì dùng "Were" cho tất cả các ngôi.

- Mệnh đề chính:
Would, Could, Should, Might + V nguyên mẫu không TO


III.
Câu Điều Kiện Không Thật ở Quá Khứ: dùng để chỉ một sự việc không thể xãy ra ở quá khứ

1.If yesterday had been a holiday, I would have gone to the movies.

2. If you hadn`t stopped your car in time, you might have killed the child.

3. if he had driven more carefully, he could have had fewer accidents.
Ta cần chú ý đến hình thức động từ của các câu trên.

- Mệnh đề if: - HAD + V ED/ 3

- Mệnh đề chính:
Would
Could + Have + V Ed/ 3
Might
.....

NOTE: UNLESS = IF... NOT ( nếu không, trừ phi)
Ví dụ: 1. Unless it rains, we will go to the movies.
= If it does not rain, we will go to the movies.
2.Unless they attend class regularly, they couldn`t understand the lesson.
= If they don`t attend class regularly, they couldn`t understand the lesson.

Put the verbs in brackets into the correct tenses.
