You mustn’t ask questions that are too personal.
You don’t have to arrive exactly on time for parties and social occasions.


You needn’t worry. In American business culture, they stick to the rules.
“Need”: modal verb
You don’t need to spend a long time on social formalities.
“Need”: ordinary verb
Note:
Must usually expresses the personal opinion of the speaker about what is necessary or obligation.
Have to usually expresses general obligation outside the control of the speaker, or an obligation based on a rule or law.
Need to is used in both contexts to express necessity.
Note:
Mustn’t is used to express a necessity or obligation not to do something.
Don’t have to is used to express the personal opinion about not to do something.
Needn’t is used to express no necessity or obligation to do something.
