A. PAST SIMPLE TENSE :
1. Caùch chia:
a. Ñoái vôùi ñoäng töø coù quy taéc: V + ed
+ Neáu ñoäng töø taän cuøng baèng –e, thì chæ caàn theâm d:
Bake – baked / race – raced / trade – traded
+ Neáu ñoäng töø taän cuøng baèng moät phuï aâm + y, thì ñoåi y thaønh i, roài theâm ed :
Dry – dried / bury – burried
(Nhöng stay – stayed/ enjoy – enjoyed )
+ Neáu ñoäng töø taän cuøng baèng moät nguyeân aâm ñôn + phuï aâm, haõy gaáp ñoâi phuï aâm cuoái cuøng roài theâm ed :
Shop – shopped / wrap – wrapped / plan – planned
+ Neáu ñoäng töø coù hai vaàn trôû leân, taän cuøng baèng moät nguyeân aâm ñôn + phuï aâm, vaø coù daáu nhaán ôû treân vaàn cuoái cuøng, thì gaáp ñoâi phuï aâm cuoái cuøng tröôùc khi theâm ed. Khoâng gaáp ñoâi phuï aâm cuoái cuøng neáu daáu nhaán khoâng rôi vaøo aâm cuoái cuøng.

+ Khoâng gaáp ñoâi nhöõng phuï aâm cuoái nhö x, w, vaø y:

+ Nhöõng ñoäng töø taän cuøng baèng nhöõng aâm /f/, /k/, /p/, /s/, / /, / /, /ks/ ñöôïc ñoïc laø /t/: washed, watched, booked, faxed, stopped, laughed
+ Nhöõng ñoäng töø taän cuøng baèng nhöõng aâm khaùc ngoaøi nhöõng aâm treân thì ñoïc laø /d/: played, bathed, planned, offered, borrowed
2. Caùch duøng:
+ Dieãn taû moät haønh ñoäng, söï kieän hay tình huoáng xaûy ra ôû moät thôøi ñieåm xaùc ñònh trong quùa khöù vaø ñaõ chaám döùt.
+ Coù caùc traïng töø chæ thôøi gian nhö : yesterday, last.., ago, in 2006…

III. Put in the past simple form of the verbs in the brackets:
