VOCABULARY
Present (noun)
1/something that you give to someone, for example to celebrate a specialoccasion such as a birthday;
2/Existing/ happening now.
Gift (noun) something that you give to someone as a present.
I am buying a t-shirt as a gift for my younger brother.
Valentine (noun) the gift you receive on Valentine Day.
Surprise (noun) a present that you are not expecting to receive
Eg: My boyfriend said to me: ‘I have a surprise for you’. He gave me a bunch of flowers.
Freebie (noun), (informal) something that someone gives you that you do not have to pay for.
Eg: Last summer, my company gave a freebie holiday.
book token (noun,british) a piece of paper of a particular value that can be used for buying books in a bookshop, usually given as a present.
Eg: Yesterday, Fahasha book store gave me a 10$ book token card.
Chrismas box (noun, Brishtish) a small present or amount of money given at Christmas to someone who delivers things to your house such as the postman.
This morning, when I woke up, I was received a Chrismas box from my grandfather. What a nice surprise!
A little something (noun) a present that you give someone to thank them, that is not very expensive.
Eg: I am cooking a cookie to give my mom.
Red packet (noun):a present of money inside a red envelope given to your younger relatives who are not married at Chinese New Year or at a Chinese wedding.
Eg: On Tet holiday, I received a lot of red packet from my relative.
Pasalubong (noun) a small gift, especially of food, that you give to friends or relatives when returning from a trip away.
Eg: I bought fishsauce for my friend, when returning from Phan Thiet.
