Understanding Names
Great Britain = England + Scotland + Wales
United Kingdom (UK) = Great Britain + Northern Ireland
British Isles = Great Britain + the whole of Ireland (Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic) + other islands = UK + the Irish Republic + other islands
Understanding Names
British Commonwealth of Nations: an association of nations consisting of the UK and its dependencies and many former British colonies.
The Sun Never Set on the British Empire,
"Dominion over palm and pine"
Territories that have been under British control.
