Ex 4: The cartoon is ‘” TOM AND JERRY”, which I like very much .

Form:
Relative pronouns “who, whom, which, that” can be omitted when they are objects in the sentences.
But we can’t omit :
* “who ,which, that” as a subject.
* “whom , which” after a comas and a preposition.
Exercise 1: Tick ()the sentences in which the relative pronoun can be omitted and explain.
1. The book which I need can’t be found in the library.
2. Here is the beach which is the safest for swimmers.
3. Do you know the American woman whose name is Magaret?
4. Jim, whom I have known for ten years is one of my closet friends.
5. I met someone that said he knew you.
6. The noise that he made wakes everybody up.
Exercise 2: Combine the following sentences, using a relative clause, and put a relative pronoun in bracket ( ) if it can be omitted.
1. This is the man. I sold my bike to him.
-> This is the man (whom) I sold my bike to.
2. I like the diamond ring. Mary is wearing it.
-> I like the diamond ring (which) Mary is wearing.
3. I didn’t like the man. We met him this morning.
-> I didn’t like the man (whom) we met this morning.
4. The bed is very modern. I slept in it.
-> The bed (which) we slept in is very modern.
5. The man is my uncle. Tom is talking to him.
-> The man (whom) Tom is talking to is my uncle.
6. The party was very interesting. We went to it.
-> The party (which) we went to was very interesting.
7. The beef was really delicious. We had it for lunch.
-> The beef (which) we had for lunch was really delicious.
8. The novel is very good. My sister wrote it.
-> The novel (which) my sister wrote is very good.
