Aims:
- To help Ss read and write new words.
- To help students write a letter to a friend.
Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to write a letter to a friend/ pen pal to share their ideas.
Ways of working: T - WC, individual work, pair work, group work.
Materials: Textbook, posters.
Anticipated problems: Writing may be difficult for weak Ss.
Teaching steps:
I.Warm up. ( 5’)
- Greet and check the Ss’ attendance.
- Revision: T asks some questions, Ss listen and answer.
The day which is celebrated for mother is called….? ( Mother’s Day)
The day which is celebrated for father is called….? ( Father’s Day)
Do we celebrate Mother’s Day and Father’s Day in Viet Nam?
Should we celebrate Mother’s Day and Father’s Day?
-> Lead in new lesson: In Viet Nam, people do not celebrate Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. You think it is necessary to have a day to celebrate for your mom and another day for your dad. Write to a friend to share your idea.

* Pre-teach vocabulary:
- Teacher uses techniques to teach students new words.

- Ask Ss to read outline on page 70 and then answer the questions.
- T gives suggest answers.


I. New words:
- enhance:(v) tăng lên, tôn vinh
- support: (v) ủng hộ, hỗ trợ
- nationwide (adv): toàn quốc, cả nước
- express: (v) bày tỏ
- have a day off: (v) nghỉ một ngày

II. Answer the questions:
* Why do we celebrate these days?
- Because children have a chance to express their feelings, memories, and love for their parents, to enhance family traditions, to bring family member closer..)
* When to celebrate ? Why ?
- Second Sunday of May ….. and third Sunday of June ...
- Sunday is a day off, so everybody is free from work or study….
* How to celebrate ?
- We can have a small party in the evening with all members of the family.
- Children should give their parents flowers and send them cards .
- Give special gifts to mom, gifts to dad.
- Children should serve their parents the food they like.
* Do you believe the idea will be supported and the days will be celebrated nationwide?
Why?
- Yes. Because everybody loves their parents and wants their parents to be happy.

- Ask Ss to look at the outline again and divive class into groups to write a friend to tell him/ her about why they want to celebrate Mother’s Day or Father’s Day in Viet Nam and how to celebrate it.



- Go around the class and help Ss if necessary.

Dear Mary,
In my opinion, it is important to have a day to celebrate for mom and another day for dad. On these days, children will have a chance to express their feelings, memories and love for their parents. We have a moment to enhance family traditions, and bring family members closer.
I think we should choose Second Day of May for mom and third Sunday of June for dad. Sunday is a day off so everybody is free from work or study. May and June are in early summer, so the weather is generally fine. Therefore, we should enjoy the celebrations.
It is necessary to have a small party in the evening with all members of the family. Children should give their parents flowers and send them cards or bring them special gifts. Moreover children should serve their parents the food they like.
